The rest of the images were taken using the 12 megapixel camera on my iPhone. The same as my previous projects. For Tone I wanted to capture a range of different things to alter their shadows and contrast to create different effects. The use of portraiture, nature and man-made objects was a perfect range of things to photograph.
Critical Evaluation
This first image of the tree's branches is similar to the sky and the bush image that were in my top 5. I put this image in my worst two because I feel as if it's too similar to other images. Also there is one part of the image that I don't like. The bottom left of the image has a large open gap within the branches which I don't like.
This next image is of ground where the dirt has been exposed and a crack is present within the dirt. When I saw the ground I thought that the crack would provide a shadow and may ombre out into the dirt and combine with the dirt highlight. However, during editing this wasn't the case. There was instead a harsh contrast that I didn't like. Because of this, I decided that the image doesn't fit the subject matter of tone and therefore, the image is one of the worst ones taken in this project.
Progress

For this image, I captured two different images to combine together to create one single image.
The models in the image are a student known as Brittany and myself. According to research, within Tone, different light levels are used to present different genders. For example: women tend to be captured in bright lighting to capture the innocence that are within women stereotypically. Men on the other hand and usually captured in darker lighting to capture masculinity. Therefore, I set the camera to capture me in a slightly darker lighting than Brittany.
To edit these photos I used Photoshop and a range of different tools within the programme, To start I turned the images black and white to suit the Tone subject matter. I further altered the shadows and contrast to create different effects on the different models presented. in the original photo, I felt like i was slightly too dark and I therefore brightened myself slightly using the curves tool. I did the opposite for Brittany. Once each individual picture was edited, I flipped the image of the male model horizontally so that when I combined the images both the models would looking away from each other. This is how I imagined the image in my head and I believe that the final outcome was successful.
These next 4 images were taken on my iPhone.

This next image is one of my favorites. It's of a glass chess piece placed on a table in a room that had natural lighting entering from behind the subject.
To edit this image, like every other image, I turned the image black and white to suit the Tone subject matter. Within the image there were a few imperfections on the chess piece and in the background that I wanted to remove, I used the spot healing tool to remove these imperfections to make the image more perfect. There is a clear difference within the images lighting after I used the curves and contrast tool to alter the shades and lighting levels. After doing this, there is a distinct difference within the shades of black and white and therefore I believe this is one of the stronger images out of the Top 5.

This image is very abstract. The image is of a window ledge that has a cobweb on it and also a window that reveals nature behind it.
To edit this image I altered the curves and contrast levels to create a deeper shadow in the corner of the window and to also make shadows that aren't noticeable in the original image noticeable. Within the image there were also a few imperfections that I felt didn't need to be there, so I used the spot healing tool to edit them out.

This next image is of a patch of different coloured leaves bundled up together. The different colours on the leaves and the cracks in between them created a range of shades to create a nice range of Tone shades when turned black and white.
To edit this image I adjusted the black and white light levels to contrast the different shades against each other. This created a very dominant effect on the audience in terms of colour as there are two very distinct shades of black and white.

Whilst turning this image black and white, I altered the settings so that the blue in the original image would be darker than original. By doing this I created a clear contrast between the two colours of black and white. The shades are opposite and therefore create a clear contrast.
well done Tim you have a good final 5 series, I particularly like the cloud shot.
ReplyDeletep.s. also the chess piece and the double portrait.
